10/19/26: University of Michigan Hockey Takes Top Spot From University of Denver After Weekend Sweep; Michigan State & North Dakota Also Move Up in the Rankings

Former #2 University of Michigan took the top ranking from The University of Denver following a weekend sweep of the Pioneers. Michigan State University and The University of North Dakota also moved up one spot to #2 and #3, respectively, while Denver dropped to #4. The two victories gave the Wolverines a 6-0-0 start for the second year in a row, the first time it has accomplished that feat.

On Friday, Michigan was led by two goals from New York Rangers’ prospect Malcolm Spence (43rd overall in 2025), prevailing by a score of 4-1. The Wolverines followed this up with a nip-and-tuck 4-3 victory on Saturday, featuring a number of glorious scoring chances at both ends of the ice. Top pivot Michael Hage (21st overall in 2024 to MTL) had two assists in the affair, giving him a gaudy 14 points (3G 11A) in this young season.

It doesn’t get any easier schedule-wise for Michigan, as they are back in action this Friday versus Western Michigan University, the NCAA’s fifth-ranked team. The Broncos early-season schedule is no easier, as they will face the aforementioned North Dakota squad in the first weekend of November.
