10/17/26: QMJHL to Flood Boston University in 2027-28 With NHL Prospects, Joining Elite Players From USHL & OHL

Boston University will be the primary destination for NHL prospects from the QMJHL in 2027-28. This does make a lot of sense geographically, as players hailing from the eastern states/provinces have the opportunity to continue their hockey careers at a high-end school close to home. Also, this is in keeping with the trend of recent NHL picks from the west attending schools such as The University of North Dakota and The University of Denver, and players from the midwest enrolling at The University of Michigan or Michigan State University. Of course, there are exceptions to this trend, perhaps most notably WHL product and presumptive #1 2027 pick Landon DuPont choosing to compete at Michigan in his draft year.

The lone QMJHL alum on the Terriers’ roster this season is offensively-gifted d-man Xavier Villeneuve (34th overall in 2026 to CHI). That will change dramatically in 2027-28, when six former players from the Q will join Villeneuve in the BU attack, five of whom are either NHL-affiliated prospects (forward Rian Chudzinski [82nd overall in 2026 by ANA]) or highly-rated 2027 draft prospects (goaltender Andrei Nikolayev [Victoriaville] & forwards James Scantlebury [Quebec], Carter Meyer [Quebec] and Jamie Glance [Moncton].) Nikolayev is projected to be the top goaltender taken in the draft, while Meyer is a potential top-5 pick.

The current BU roster is replete with USHL and OHL talent. The USHL currently features eleven alumni on the Terriers’ roster who are NHL draft selections, including elite netminder Mikhail Yegorov (49th overall in 2024 to NJD) and 2026 first-rounder Tynan Lawrence (11th overall to STL). They will be joined next season by power forward Sam Pandolfo, one of the more intriguing 2027 draft prospects currently playing for the USNTDP.

With respect to the OHL, the most recognizable name on BU’s current roster is forward Caleb Malhotra (3rd overall in 2026 to VAN), formerly of OHL Brantford. Former OHL Niagara d-man Haoxi (Simon) Wang (33rd overall in 2025 to SJS), the first Chinese citizen to be drafted by an NHL club, likewise is a current Terrier. BU will add OHL Saginaw goaltender Brady Knowling (127th overall in 2026 to SJS) and OHL Sarnia forward Alessandro Di Iorio (94th overall to CBJ) in 2027-28.
