Goaltender Devon Levi, Edmonton (212th overall in 2020 by FLA) – As reported by Sportsnet correspondent Elliotte Friedman, Edmonton goaltender Devon Levi is on the cusp of a breakout NHL season for the Oilers. Despite playing 39 games with Buffalo over the previous 4 seasons, and posting a .914 save percentage in 120 contests with AHL Rochester during that time, the Sabres traded him to Edmonton this off-season in exchange for minimal compensation (a 2028 3rd-round pick). Levi promptly posted a stellar .946 save percentage in 100 pre-season minutes for the Oilers, and secured an opening-night roster spot with the big club. He will compete with Tristan Jarry for starts while Frederik Andersen recovers from injury, a prospect made all the more intriguing in Edmonton’s 6-5 loss to Vancouver last night, in which Jarry was in net for all of the Canucks’ goals.
Forward Chase Harrington, Calgary (36th overall) – Calgary recently signed second-round pick Harrington to a three-year, entry-level contract with a $1.075 million cap hit. Upon his return to WHL Spokane after appearing in pre-season action for the Flames, the Chiefs’ captain promptly recorded three points (1G 2A) in a 3-2 victory over Tri-City, including assisting on Nathan Mayes’ game-winner. True to his power-forward reputation and renowned physicality, Harrington also dropped the gloves to complete the Gordie Howe Trick. With his skillset, vision and toughness, Flames fans are going to love watching this kid when gets to Calgary in the near future.
D-man Ethan Edwards, New Jersey (120th overall in 2020) – Due to an excellent pre-season after which Edwards ultimately was sent back to Utica, at least for the time being, he left the lasting impression that he is ready for a depth role at the D position in the NHL. Although never a top offensive contributor, Edwards continues to add that aspect to his game, resulting in 23 points (10G 13A) in 69 games for AHL Utica last season. Edwards was called up to New Jersey last season but saw no game action. After his strong camp at both ends of the ice, look for that to change in 2026-27.
