There were a lot of great moments last night in the annual “Frozen Frenzy,” from Brady Tkachuk’s natural hat trick to Connor McDavid’s four points. The event, which has been held each season by the NHL since 2023, features all 32 teams in action on the same night, and employs a staggered start to the 16 games so fans can catch at least part of all the action. This year’s showcase featured an official tally of 112 goals, eclipsing the prior Frozen Frenzy record of 109 goals set just last October. The record-setting goal was scored by San Jose forward Macklin Celebrini, making him among the 71 players under age 30 to score last night. Celebrini has 8 points (2G 6A) in 4 games this season.
Celebrini’s tally wasn’t his total contribution to the score sheet. He recorded the primary assist on an earlier goal scored by teammate Ivar Stenberg, the first goal of his NHL career. Stenberg’s tally adds to his three assists, giving him 4 points through 6 games this season.
In other prospect news, forward Roger McQueen debuted for Anaheim last night, although he was held off the scoresheet in a 4-2 Ducks’ loss to Calgary, the Flames’ first two points of the season.
