The San Jose Sharks named 20-year-old forward Macklin Celebrini their 11th full-time captain, the youngest in the NHL. Celebrini fills the role vacated by Logan Couture’s April 2025 retirement. The announcement follows Celebrini’s record-breaking 2025-26 season where he registered a franchise-high 115 points (45G 70A), helping the Sharks improve their win total by 19 victories over the prior season. He also captained Team Canada at the 2026 IIHF World Championship en route to leading the Canadians to a 4th-place finish, as well as being named the international male hockey player of the year.
General Manager Mike Grier praised his work ethic and team impact, as Celebrini now leads a young core toward playoffs when the 2026-27 season starts September 29.
